Steve Jobs once said of design, it’s “not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works.” And, while we aren’t taking fashion advice from a guy who wore the same thing every day, he did know a thing or two about functional design. You know who else knows a thing or two about functional design? The engineers at Nissan, specifically the ones who were involved in creating the Nissan GT-R.
Originally a performance variant of the Nissan Skyline coupe, the GT-R was produced from 1969 to 1974, and then from 1989 to 2002. Reborn in 2007, the Nissan GT-R is an incredible, high-performing sports car—verging on supercar. The 2019 version of the GT-R is no different, having been meticulously designed inside and out to optimize performance, and to create an unparalleled driving experience. Read on and learn how the new Nissan GT-R is designed to excite all of the senses.
The 2019 Nissan GT-R’s Exterior Design
The 2019 Nissan GT-R wasn’t designed to work in concert with the wind, it was designed to fight it (and win). The large grille of the GT-R allows more cool air in, ensuring the GT-R’s powerful, 565 horsepower engine won’t overheat, while the reshaped front fascia pushes air from the front and around the wheel wells to reduce drag. The GT-R’s side skirts then keep that same air from going underneath the vehicle, providing uncompromising handling. As air flow continues to the back of the vehicle, the rear fascia forces the air—as well as the other hot emissions—away from the vehicle in order to keep the exhaust nice and cool. This creates an incomparable aerodynamic experience, that extends into a truly thrilling drive.
The 2019 Nissan GT-R’s Interior Design
The same care and sophistication given to its exterior, extends into the interior of the GT-R. After all, the Nissan GT-R is designed to create an all-encompassing driving experience—from the comfort of your seat to the sounds you hear (or don’t). The GT-R’s combination meter, inspired by the look of meshing gears, provides a wealth of information within your sightline while allowing you to focus on the road ahead. An easy-to-use Display Commander system offers a multi-touch screen that keeps you engaged and connected to the world around you. Of course, these complement an interior that ranges from sporty to plush, thanks to an arrangement of carbon fibre and soft touch surfaces—namely the dashboard, cut from a single piece of imperfection-free Nappa leather. You have a choice of two different seating options, but the available leather Recaro® front sport-seats truly embody the ethos of the GT-R—that is, attention to detail mixed with incredible performance. Finally, thanks to Nissan’s advanced Active Noise Cancellation system, you’ll have the option of hearing the GT-R’s mighty roar, or toning it down to save people’s ears in crowded urban settings.
The 2019 Nissan GT-R has been crafted from top to bottom, inside and out, to provide a singular—and scintillating—driving experience. An experience that can truly only be felt, no matter how much we talk it up. Swing by West End Nissan, and test-drive the incredible Nissan GT-R today. You won’t regret it!
